Fog fog go away. Simplest way to clear fog on car windshield during rain.
Set and forget
Okay guys, now get ready to drive your car in rain, the fog free way.
One can see how difficult it is to drive in rain..wipe your windscreen with cloth, constantly change AC fan speed, constantly change AC divert to windscreen, then to face, then to legs. Finally open window at the slightest chance to set things back and wipe the screen and all this for a peaceful drive in the rain and just to be able to see where you are heading. Oh and not to forget the hot air method. Whether thou like it or not, although it looks like a great procedure, well it cannot get you to mars. Its trial and error with ofcourse intelligence, artificial. :-d
So you know what I am taking about.
Now what if I tell your car dealer is wrong, and most drivers have been wrong.
As an engineer I tried to solve this problem and tried to do a lazy approach. Basically try to do one setting and sleep over it even if it means you lose your windshield visibility completely to see if there is light at end of the tunnel and stop myself from making quick conclusions. See if a solution exists, may be increases the fog initially but later it becomes right.
So you know this approach can take really long and i found it difficult to try this on a regular basis and remember every time i drive in rain my goal.
Then one fine day a simple clue that inside temperature should be same as outside gave me my break.
Yes you heard it right. Meditation.
So here is my solution directly(story, science(now that i know it works) in next post). And all the best to try it and leave your feedback below.
- Set fan speed to normal, speed 1 or 2
- Set temperture to just 1 or 2 points Towards cold, from mid of hot or cold. Basically make the inside of the car just cold enough to match outside but not really cold.
- Most importantly, do not set the AC diverter to Windscreen as adviced(advised??) by your dealer. Just set it to normal position, towards face.
- Keep AC in recirculation mode.
So basically what you are doing is more like meditation. Trying to set your internal temperature to match outside just enough, neither too hot nor too cold. Just cold enough. And instead of trying to solve a specific windshield problem, address the internal temperature problem. So DO NOT direct the AC towards windshield but just focus on maintaining internal temperature. Howz that for zen. :p
Steps.
- Now just wait for rain.
- make this one time setting(above and in pics)
- Forget cloth, wiping, opening window slightly. Just forget all extra steps.
When I say simple, it will be simple.

I have tried on cabs in bangalore(asking them to change to my setting and they were surprised and relieved.)
Yeah and Have used this setting for more than an year now on my i10 hyundai.
All the best.
Yeah share this info if it works. Dont share before trying. And leave a comment if it solves one of your problem atleast!!!
And one last thing, now that you have no settings to fidget in rain, now thats your problem, not mine. Cheers
I have used this method off and on for a couple of years. The fan speed can be whatever you like. If it’s cold outside, just set the heat to a comfortable temperature but otherwise try to get close to outside temperature. If there is a lot of mist kicked up by traffic ahead of you, it’s very important to use the recirculate mode because too much moisture would otherwise flow through the intake for outdoor air.
