House Construction In Bangalore

Ideal Size – Home – Bathroom Shower Area

When you plan your house, you need to keep a tape handy all the time. You need to measure things and identify the sweet spot for your comfort. Note that space is a variable thing. For some small is big for some big is small. Some people are claustrophobic[dislike confined and congested spaces]. In essence you need to decide what is the ideal size for various rooms of your house. You have to ensure that when your floor plan is prepared by the  architect there are no compromises on this minimum requirement.

A modern bathroom has the western toilet and shower and wash basin as a part of the same bathroom. I will start with the minimal area for each of these.

In this article we will explore the modern Shower Area size requirements.

A shower area can be decided by considering the personality of inmates. So a simple exercise to to measure some existing shower are of friends, neighbours or hotels that you visit. The other option is to sit in one corner on a stool and measure how much you can move such that you  can achieve free movement of hands and legs to clean yourself. So in effect for a person of 6 feet height and around 80 kgs, a ideal width of 4 feet upwards is good size.

So a  [4×4] is normally a good shower area in all directions.

Notice that a modern bathroom is of size 5 feet in width and around 9 to 11 ft in lengt. This is a standard layout [ 5ft x 9 ft ]  for bathroom nowadays with wash basin facing the door to bathroom. In the middle area there is a commode and finally the shower area.

But if you can make it more comfortable or you can have more space planned then you can increase the size to a [7ft x 11ft] dimension and plan a different layout. You could have a central door and wash basin facing the open door in central region. Commode area to one side and shower area to the other side of the room. This is a neat design and makes the bathroom look very spacious. You can also use shower partition to separate the shower area from rest of bathroom and keep bathroom dry.
